WUIHS Signed MOU with Five stakeholders, institutions, Professional Associations

At the end of the Institute's two-day BSc Curricula validation workshop, the Institute has held discussions with representatives of various institutions such as ETA delegates, Oromia Health Bureau, Professional Associations, and invited health sector stakeholders. Along with the key stakeholders, community representatives have also participated in the forum organized by the Institute.

Dr. Diriba Diba, Research and Technology Teansfer, Vice President and Chairperson of WUIHS Administration Board, emphasized the importance of collaboration to mitigate and/or solve the communities' health related problems.

Dr Diriba has underscored the WUIHS, particularly; the clinical services are very much crowded with the hospital's visitors, which can be handled by other primary and general hospitals, and health centres. The local communities and health centre’s demand for community services and support is becoming beyond the Institute's capacity, he noted. Collaboration, cooperation, partnering with each other will help all health sector stakeholders to deliver services as per the need of communities around us, he added.

Dr. Tesfaye Shibiru, WUIHS Academic and Service Corporate Director, has presented the Institute's 9 months. Academic programs activities and clinical service reports to the participants.

Mrs. Lemane Dereje, Resesrch and Community Service Corporate Director of IHS, presented the Institute's Community Services rendered by the staff, students (through DTTP and TTP Projects), summer volenteering services, through campaigns in collaboration with stakeholders and NGOs, to solve community problems.

In collaboration with ''Project_Harar_Ethiopia'' and ''Smile_Train'' NGOs, the Institute has treated about 38 Cleft lip and cleft palate children through repair campaign. Likewise, in collaboration with ''Freed Hallows Foundation'' the Institute has able to perform about 4500 Catarat Surgery and the number of beneficiaries will increase as the treatment is still on going, Mrs Lemane indicated. She has also briefed the participants about the Institute's research activities and publication.

Dr. Meseret Belete, CED of WUIHS, in his closing remarks, hinted that preparation has been finalized to accredit selected programs of the Institute.

MoU signed institutions/Associations include, Ethiopian Midewives' Associaions, Ethiopian Association of Anesthetists, Ethiopian Nurses Association, ORSSHD, and Horro Guduru Zonal Health Department.

Finally, Dr. Diriba has also thanked all the stakeholders for coming and contributing to the success of the curricula validation and stakeholders and community forum.
